Abstract Previous studies of geothermal potential across Canada (Majorowicz and Grasby, 2010) and Québec (Minea and Majorowicz, 2011) showed relatively high heat flux and temperatures in the general area of the St. Lawrence Valley against the background of generally low heat flow of the Canadian shield. This paper presents more detailed analysis of temperature-at-depth realtionships, geological structure, tops and lithology in the large western part of the St. Lawrence Valley in a region which includes the most populated cities like Montréal, Trois-Rivières, Québec City, Rimouski and Sherbrooke. A review of power generation cycles and preliminary estimations of total and specific costs of doublet and triplet Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) feasible for use in the specific geothermal conditions of the studied area are also presented.
