| Abstract | Dixie Valley is one of the hottest and largest geothermal systems located in the Basin and Range province of Nevada (Blackwell et al., 2007). Much of the geothermal work done in Dixie Valley has focused on the Still Water range front fault and associated piedmont faults bounding the western side of the valley for conventional geothermal plays. Due to the focused exploration on the western side of the valley, there is little geological data to characterize the subsurface in the central-east side of the valley. Additionally, with the focus on conventional geothermal exploration, there is a broad lack of deep basement data required for planning a deep closed loop geothermal system. An exploratory 3D geology model of the Dixie Valley area, near Eavor's lease, was created using geological maps, cross-sections, gravity data, and limited well data in Seequent's Leapfrog Energy and Oasis Montaj software. Growing interest in deep geothermal resources requires exploration techniques that can be implemented in data limited areas. 3D models can help characterize subsurface geology to help understand the complexities that may impact project development. Leapfrog is a flexible 3D modelling software that can accommodate this style of geothermal exploration mapping. |
