| Abstract | Ormat has an operational portfolio of approximately 30 geothermal resources, with over 40 exploration prospects globally with many of these in the US. Recently Ormat has ramped up its exploration activity and has been working to improve and standardize its processes in a hope to decrease the time to a successful development and to increase the likelihood of successful exploration and subsequent development. This has resulted in the creation of a Development Process which maps out the various phases of a project, along with the deployment of a project management approach to match these phases. The need to define how success is measured was identified, both at a phase level as well as at an individual well success rate level. The paper will cover the Ormat Development Process and cover for each phase the Ormat view on what success is, how it can be measured and any limitations to be considered. The paper will also discuss general considerations of measuring success at both a phase and well level. In addition discussion will be made about the management of risk throughout the exploration and development process. |
