| Abstract | The First Latin American Geothermal Congress (LGC-2025), is a dedicated regional forum focused on the technical dimensions of geothermal energy development within Latin America. The congress aims at reviewing past experiences, conducting evaluations of the present state of geothermal activities, and collaboratively formulating a technically grounded vision for the sector's future in the region. The main objective being to promote the development of geothermal energy in LATAM through technical advancements. Here we report on the main strategic outcomes generated during the LGC. First, we highlight key numbers of the congress such as the regional distribution of attendees, and other key numbers from the congress. Second, we present an analysis of the technical lessons learned from past efforts across various Latin American countries, highlighting both successes and impediments. Third, we report an assessment of the current technological capabilities, operational practices, resource potential knowledge, and prevailing regulatory/economic/social/environmental frameworks impacting geothermal deployment within the region. Finally, we showcase a regionally-informed future vision, outlining identified technical priorities, potential collaboration and development areas, and strategic pathways needed to improve geothermal utilization in Latin America from low to high temperature applications. We provide the international geothermal community with a detailed perspective on the specific technical context, challenges, and future strategies emerging from Latin America's geothermal sector, encouraging knowledge exchange and avenues for international cooperation. We highlight the strategies deployed during the congress to promote the participation of young experts and women from the region and worldwide. |
